Sustainability Front pageAbout usSustainabilityWe enhance our customers’ sustainabilityTomorrow’s society is powered by clean energy and built on reliable connections. Our goal is to enhance sustainability among our customers by, among other things, using lower-carbon materials, phasing out fossil fuels, and ensuring respect for human rights throughout the entire supply chain. We continuously develop our offering and operations to ensure our impact becomes ever more positive. We help our customers achieve their own sustainability goals, and we are committed to ambitious emission reductions in line with the Science Based Targets initiative. During our 2025–2028 strategy period, we will focus on two main sustainability objectives: acting for the earth and enhancing sustainable work life. We act in line with our values, fostering an ethical corporate culture. We continuously improve the transparency of our sustainability data and ensure our operations comply with ESG laws and regulations. We are seeking new ways to build energy infrastructure with lower emissions and offer our customers low-carbon alternatives. Lower emissions – a better carbon handprint We are building the steel structures for Fingrid’s substations in Kokemäki, Harjavalta and Nakkila using recycled steel, which produces about 40% fewer emissions than conventional steel. For the first time in Finland, all outdoor steel structures of a national grid substation are being built from low-emission steel. In Northern Finland, we are constructing a high-voltage transmission line for the national grid operator using low-carbon concrete elements in the foundations. This is believed to be the first time low-carbon concrete structures are used in the construction of a high-voltage electricity network in Finland. The low-carbon concrete elements generate 15% lower emissions. Our employees in Finland use around 370 vehicles, which we are gradually replacing with electric ones. By the end of 2025, one third of our Finnish vehicle fleet had been electrified. Electrifying the first batch of the car fleet will convert around 1.7 million kilometers to emission-free driving. We are also electrifying our vehicle fleet in our other operating countries.
